Experienced sales and marketing professional Tapani Mustonen (47) from Kokkola has been selected as the CEO of Kokkolan Urheilupuisto Oy. Mustonen currently works as HalpaHalli’s online store manager, in addition to being responsible for HalpaHalli’s digital marketing and customer service. Before that, he worked as Sales Director for Hilla Group, the former Keski-Pohjanmaan Kirjapaino.
”Tapani Mustonen has solid experience in sales and marketing as well as business management in his previous career. Mustonen’s selection was also influenced by his extensive network of local sports and physical activity operators, which makes it easier to perform the duties of CEO,” says Jonne Sandberg, Chairman of the Board of Kokkolan Urheilupuisto Oy.
Tapani Mustonen will start his new position on September 1. According to Sandberg, the CEO’s most important task in the initial phase will be to launch the company’s business and, among other things, create service processes. The focus of the business is primarily on getting the people of Kokkola moving and local sports activities, but also on various events.
” “The construction work of Kokkola Arena has progressed according to plan, and once completed, the sports park complex will be an important part of an attractive Kokkola. Now that a CEO has been selected for the company, the undersigned can focus on performing the duties of Chairman of the Board instead of operational activities,” says Jonne Sandberg.
” Open cooperation between clubs
accelerates development”
Tapani Mustonen describes his mood as excited and expectant.
” This is where many pieces of the puzzle come together when you think about my career and my role as CEO of Kokkolan Urheilupuisto Oy. I have been in sales for over 25 years, which helps launch the commercial side of the company. In addition, I have a history of organizing events and practical club work, which means I know quite well the situations in which the clubs in the area find themselves in. The most important thing is a high occupancy rate of the facilities and reasonable pricing, and thereby developing the operations in a way that serves both the company and the users,” Mustonen says.
He emphasizes the importance of cooperation, especially cooperation between local clubs.
” We are able to offer excellent facilities and good transport connections. When we add to this the unity and open cooperation between clubs, Kokkola has all the prerequisites to bring significant sporting events to the city, in addition to concerts and other large events.” The entire Kokkola Arena will be put into operation during the summer of 2026. The operations of Kokkolan Urheilupuisto Oy consist of Kokkola Arena (indoor sports and football arenas), an ice rink and a training ice rink.
